Subject: Windows v3.0 Error "Unknown Copy Failure"
Date: August 2, 1990
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
PROBLEM: While installing Windows 3.0 on the network, the user
receives an "Unknown copy failure" after unexpanding the
windows files with EXPALL.BAT and after running SETUP /N
(Network). The users we have seen the problem with are
usually running Arcnet.
SOLUTION: You can use the SETUP /I (ignore) /N (network) or you can
change the conflicting address/interrupt of the interface
card.
COMMENTS: Windows evidently does some type of auto configuration to
see what IRQs and base I/O addresses are being used. The
default base I/O address of Arcnet cards (2E0h) can conflict
with other addresses (in this case a video card) and cause
the windows auto configuration not to function properly;
thus, causing the error. This is not just specific to
Arcnet; any type of interrupt, base I/O, or memory address
could also cause this to occur.
